Benvinguts a Catalunya!
Welcome to Catalonia!
Joel Ristol, aka @1.6_3dart shares this beautifully detailed model of a landmark in his native Catalonia.
Sant Pere de Rodes (Saint Peter of Rodes) is a former Benedictine monastery in the Girona province of Catalonia, in the northeastern tip of Spain. The Romanesque style monastery is in partially in ruins, located on the slopes of Verdera mountain, which also has a medieval ruined castle in the summit, and traces of a town nearby.
According to legend, it was founded by monks carrying relics of St. Peter who landed in the area after fleeing from "Barbarian hordes" that were invading the Western Roman Empire. The earliest records of the monatery date to around 900 AD. It became a popular place of pilgrimage around the 12th century, before falling into decay in the 17th century, when it was sacked.
It was until the 1930s that it was protected as national monument and restoration works began (from Wikipedia).
