Description
Unique for its size, this head bears witness to the mastery of marble sculpture in the Cycladic civilisation during the time known as the Early Bronze Age (2750-2300 BC).
The head belonged to an upright statue, arms folded across the chest and legs together, like the figurines with crossed arms of the so-called Spedos type.
The complete work stood about 1.5 m. tall. Its function remains a mistery.
