Nicola Cavalieri San Bertolo (1788-1867) was an engineer and architect, professor and specialist in architecture and hydraulics. He was the author of multiple books, publishing the first edition of the Istituzioni di architettura statica e idraulica in Bologna in 1826-1827. For many, Cavalieri's manual is a highly regarded source of information in polytechnic education, integrating ancient tradition and new scientific and technical progress in the knowledge of architecture.
