Djaat have the greatest innate magical ability of all Valernian peoples, controlling natural forces as easily as other species eat and breathe. They are not immortal, but they do not grow old. They are born from Djaat parents, and then take decades to reach adulthood. A few centuries later, they simply peter out, their elemental essence fading back into the Fai that it came from.
Creatures of pure searing heat, flame djaat are volcanic forces given humanoid shape. They have smooth goldensilver skins, with tongues of white flame for hair and eyebrows. They dress in simple tunics, but elaborate jewelry. All flame djaat can control fire from birth, and their powers only grow with every passing decade. Masters over their physical state, Flame djaat heat and cool their skin to temperatures bearable for other less heat-resistant creatures, though most prefer to burn as bright and as hot as they can. They live in the volcanoes of Valerna’s Southorn, and perhaps in many other magma-filled or volcanic areas above and below the world. They are boisterous and, like their element, unpredictable. They can be friendly one moment and violent the next.
