Description
El Rey is one of the Mayan sites located at the seaside of the Caribbean.
This piece represents one of his lords, richly dressed with earmuffs and headdress. there is a depression in the top of the head, meaning it was also used as a censer.
The Eastern coast of Quintana Roo saw the flourishing of trade routes from North to South, and many local lords gained strength at the regional level, elevating their status and position within the Maya nobility in the 14th and 15th centuries.
