The work is marked by a strong Social Realism and portrays a bearded old man who tries in vain to warm his hands over some embers. The sculpture was praised by the Socialist periodical Lotta di Classe (Class Struggle). The plaster model is kept at the Gam (Civica Galleria d'Arte Moderna) in Milan.
