storage settler of catan (interlocking tiles)
Here's my storage solution for my settler of catan main-game with interlocking tiles (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2035221). I tried to find a solution that has some flexible parts. There are different variations of hex-pieces you can choose from and I wanted, that my storage is going to fit for most of your choices.
The biggest sices you need to print are 19.6 cm x 20.7 cm x 14.4 cm (hight). So make shure you're printerbed is big enough.
These are the parts you need to print for the box:
•2 x storage core
•1 x storage piece holder
•1 x storage card holder
•1 x storage top
•1 x storage center (optional)
•1 x storage center top (optional)
The placeholder-parts you have to choose, depend on the tiles you already printed. Check out the picture with the corresponding list to choose the right parts (last two pictures). The storage-center-part can be used for additional storage like for parts from other scenarios & variants or for the manual. Good printing then and let me know if there should be some issues.
If you wonder, how the pieces go together, check out the pictures from the storage for the magnetic tiles here: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1482713
For transporting the box, make sure that you grab it on the bottom, not the top...
Before printing, please check out the informations unter the printer-settings section below!
Printer brand : Ultimaker
Printer : Ultimaker 2
Rafts : No
Supports : No
Resolution : 0.8 mm
Infill : 15-30%
Notes : I used a fillfactor of 30% for all parts to make shure the pieces are stable enough.
IMPORTANT: Make sure, that the outer hull is solid enough and not to thin.
If you're printer doesn't have a heated printerbed, you may have the problem that your print will bow slightly. For my prototype I use bluetape on my printerbed but it still bowed upwards. Normally this effect only affects the first layers and is compensated the higher your print gets. Which means the bottom of your print is bowed and the top is not. You can see this effect on the pictures of my prototype.
So what can you do? Maybe it's worth to try some other methode than bluetape to keep your print stuck to the printerbed, like for example 3dlac.
If you can't manage to prevent your print from bowing, it's not that dramatic. I made the design in a way, that this effect doesn't concerne the way you stick together the box afterwards.
