This Bronze memorial sculpture, on permanent public display in Christchurch UK, was erected by the people of Suffolk as a monument to Suffolk soliders who lost their lives in the South African War, 1899-1902. The sculpture was completed in the early 1900s; the base states the names of all of the soldiers who died in the war. The male figure depicted on the top represents one of the soldiers, carrying a large gun to the ground in a gesture of memory and grace.
