Bee hunter's box
I recently started beekeeping as a hobby and wantedd a box for bee hunting. The box has built in hinges and two slides, and there is also a spot to glue a viewing window.
To test the hinge with your printer and plastic, print a hinge test.stl file to be sure you aren't wasting time on a bigger model.
Before use, you must glue in a clear plexiglass or plastic window for the viewport (there is a template file included).
For parts, you need to print:
1X beehunter's box.stl
2X beehunter's box slide.stl
1X window template.stl
To use it, you catch a bee in the hinged compartment and move it into the viewport side of the box - this can usually be done with light. You can then block the sun with the second slide. After the bee is secured on the one side, you put some sugar water or honey out for him to slurp up and take back to the hive. You can then mark the bee and note the time and direction of the trips that it makes to the hive.
Thank you for looking and happy hunting!
Bee hunter's box.stl requires supports - I had mine set to 75 degrees and blocked the support near the bottom of the hinge, where there is a base support model built into the stl file. Be sure to clear all of the support material out of the hinge before use. The first time you crank the hinge, try to keep even pressure across the whole part so the plastic does not sieze and break in any one spot.
