Yet Another Yoda - Keychain/Charm for Casting
Yet Another Yoda - Keychain/Charm for Casting
Published 2015-06-16T13:50:42+00:00 • Remixed from Low Poly Yoda, Yoda's Head
This is a remix of a remix of a remix, but I don't think we can ever get enough Yoda.
I added a keychain/charm loop and scaled him down quite a bit. The purpose was for an experiment in investment casting. At this scale, with a FDM process, there is a thin spot in the ears that just ends up being empty space. We repaired that with a little wax.
All parts were printed in ABS (rather than PLA which is more commonly used for investment casting). Some were vapor polished, and some were left as-printed. A handful were then investment cast in silicon bronze.
More information and a video of the process is up on our blog at printedsolid.com
This was not printed with bronze PLA. It was printed in regular PLA and then investment cast into solid bronze using an investment casting process. If you're looking for guidance on printing with colorFabb bronzefill PLA, we have some here: http://www.printedsolid.com/shop/175-3/bronze/ Print at 0.2 mm layer height, with 10% infill. This uses 2 g of filament and takes 16 minutes.
