Description
This is the Egyptian type of depicting Antinous. The boy, loved by the Roman emperor Hadrian (AD 76-138), died at a very early age, and Hadrian established a widespread cult in memory of him. This is an example of a portrait type that originated in Egypt, showing Antinous as a figure of high stature.
