This marble bust of Athena originates from Italy, carved circa 280 BC. The sculpture depicts Minerva (in Greek, Athena), the goddess of Wisdom, courage, inspiration, civilization, law and justice, mathematics, strength, war strategy, the arts, crafts, and skill. She is often depicted with a striking helmet either on her head of carried in her head resembling a reminder that she was a goddess of war.
