Byzantium did trade with Northern Europe and actually the Imperial Guard of the Byzantine Emperor did consist of warriors from Northen Europe.
This was the backbone of the Byzantine navy. For centuries Byzantium’s naval force did consist of a fleet of fast, manouvable galleys which were armed with a very feared and secred weapon "Greek Fire" which could be fire from a distance and would stick to and burn eney ships and crews.
The dromon was without doubt the most important warship of the Byzantine navy from the 6th to 12th centuries AD. The design was based on galleys from the Roman Empire and they could transport troops, fight pirates (as they were swift) and partitiapate in large scale naval battles.
Unsupported, requires glue for assembly (8 parts)
