Description
The deceased woman is depicted in a gesture of distress. A small female servant holds a hat while male servant carries a box. A basket, cylindrical box, kithara and jug sit on a shelf. These objects symbolise the feminine virtues of the deceased and are typical of funerary stelae produced in Asia minor in the Hellenistic period (336-31 BC).
Beneath the pediment the epitaph (inscription) reads “Menophila (daughter of) Artemidoros, greetings!”
