We have an old statue in our back yard that has been in my wife's Louisville, KY USA family for generations. It stands about 2 feet high, and has a spout coming out of the gooses' beak that you can pipe water to for a fountain. It's been painted many times over the years and the paint is thick and peeling, but it has lots of character. I decided to try to scan it and see if I could print it out in 3D.
I first printed it out at the size of the STL file, but I thought it was too small to really see the details. I scaled it about 3X and re-printed it and was much happier with it at that size.
I think overall it was a good result for a first time effort. For comparison, a video of the 123d Catch rendering is available here: https://youtu.be/lATga58Yqdc
I printed it with my Printerbot Plus @ .2mm layer height, 15% infill, and 50mm/s speed. There are several overhangs that will require supports to print well. One of the files has supports already generated, one is without.
