In the work Konenkov come to life images of Russian fairy tales, epics, peasant beliefs. "Old Man", "Lesovich", "Stribog", "Eruslan Lazarevich", "Firebird" were cut from the tree - the native material of Russian folk masters. Konenkov revived the tree in Russian sculpture, revealed its rich decorative features. In addition to these works, he creates sculptures, inspired by antiquity, compositions on the theme of music ("Bach", "Paganini"), monumental and decorative panels.
After the October Revolution, Konenkov took an active part in the implementation of Lenin's plan for monumental propaganda. He creates a memorial plaque for those who died in the struggle for peace and the brotherhood of nations (1918), intended for the Kremlin wall (now in the Russian Museum). At the opening of this memorial plaque with a speech delivered by Lenin.
