Description
The author of this relief portrait is Gregorio di Lorenzo, assumed to possibly be the mysterious Master of the Marble Madonnas. The name is connected to a sculptor(or a group of sculptors), who was responsible for a stylistically related group of sculptures from Italy between circa 1470 and 1500.
This relief would be a good example of Gregorio's work, as it combines high and low relief, and has the heavily-lidded, down-looking eyes.
