Description
This portrait of a child is made of porour limestone, now cut in half, and is a typical example of Roman art from the city of Palmyra; the portrait has no individual traits and is heavily sculpted. Since most Roman portraits from Palmyra served as relief decorations on plates for closing graves, this is also to be assumed for this head. Remains of a flat plate behind the left ear can confirm this assumption.
