For saving desk space! This attaches to the default spool holder of the mini. It consists of two parts: a socket around the z-axis stepper motor, and a part that slides onto the rails of the stock spool holder. I glued these parts together, because they require different build orientations, an upgrade to the design would be some kind of click system to assemble them.
WARNING: put a cable tie through the center of the spool to attach it to the frame, and tighten it down until you can't push the spool off anymore. Otherwise the spool WILL fall when you bump into it, and probably destroy either the x-axis or the build platform.
If you want to iterate on the design: https://cad.onshape.com/documents/65479c68723f227df5af4c43/w/0e23c23f9b70499d76526349/e/4a69144aebfb03e716fb457e
To ensure a good fit to the existing spool holder, print the 'spool holder adapter' on its side.
The socket - I printed this with a mesh modifier in PrusaSlicer, so the 4 walls are just gyroid infill without perimeters. (see the video on Prusa's Youtube channel for this technique). This was done for ventilation, but I haven't verified how well it works by doing temperature measurements. Glue the parts together using hot glue, super glue, or what you have on hand.
