Thanael, The Archangel of Death
Thanael has always been the most wise of his kin. Being the 12th hour of the Archangels, he was the first, but also was the end. He was once the Archangel of Change, but when the gods he served fell either by their own hubris or the sheer will of mortals... his perspective changed.
Thanael watched from the heavens as Agannon took out his fury upon mortal kind for the Godking's actions. They could not act as the Planar Accord would be broken. He watched as wars raged between nations and still could not do anything. While his kind watched, the forces of The Nine Hells and The Abyss gathered in strength.
With the Gods dead, the angels must act without guidance. Thanael was chosen to lead them, but he declined as he felt deeply disturbed by where his mind wandered. Instead, he elected Ahrimael to take command as a paragon of Law & Order.
Thanael left and wandered the ruins of Narvandr to truly understand what plagued his mind. For years, he wandered the halls of the dead as his ruminated over his most terrible realizations. Slowly it changed him and he realized the truth of all existence.
"In my rumination, I have found a terrible truth. Mortal life has no purpose, in death you fuel our eternal conflict. I will bring everlasting peace. I will bring an end to all life."
He would annihilate all life to defeat evil, as each mortal was capable of great evil without reason. They were too easily corrupted and the heavens could not depend on them. Without their souls, The Nine Hells and Abyss would grow weak... In this state they could finally be erased from existence and The High Heavens would reign supreme.
