Top Cable Guide for Direct Drive Extruder
Top Cable Guide for Direct Drive Extruder

Ever since I switched from a bowden to direct drive extruder on my Ender 3 Pro, I wasn't content with the cable management above the X-Axis (i.e. E-Stepper Drive, BLTouch, Fan, Thermistor Cable etc).
I therefore designed a cable guide which attaches to the top and back of the printer (slide into 2020 profile) without interfering with either the Z nor X axis. The guide is designed to keep all cables above and behind the print area, while giving enough room to follow the movement of the X and Z Axis.
The guide is made of three parts which can be assembled with 2 x M3 screws (min 12mm / max 18mm length) and be slid in the 2020 / 4020 profile.
All parts can be printed without support
While the two parts which slide into the 2020 / 4020 profile may need to be structurally sound (40% Infill), the horizontal bar may as well be printed with only 20% infill unless it supports really heavy cables. Please take into consideration that printing these parts with e.g. PLA may affect the clearances due to the shrinking of the material once cooled down, thus making it a bit more difficult to assemble or fit into the xx20 profile. If you want a shorter / longer horizontal bar, just scale the length axis in your slicer accordingly
