Description
Probably from Sparta Lakonia. The gladiator wears the special helmet used in the games (galea) and holds the characteristic sword (gladius). The palm branch and four wreaths depicted suggest a total of five victories. The name of the dead man, Penelaes, is inscribed above the representation.
