Description
The 8x8x8 Crawler. This is an Exceed Mad Torque 8x8 crawler 1/8 crawler that I 3d printed a body for a few years ago. This project is what inspired me to get a 3d printer in the first place. I no longer own the truck but it sure was fun designing and printing it as my first large 3d project. Everything was printed an a 3d printer that came as a kit from some random online store. This was printed using over 14 pieces that were all bolted or glued together. Having a project of this size really challenged me in the design process and I had a lot of error prints. In the end I had my mad max style 8x8 with a full 3d printed body. The front of the truck was using free files that I modified and the back of the truck I deigned myself. (using PLA for this was probably a mistake as it did warp in a few of the this spots.) The front cab was a free file that I had to hollow out to allow space for a smoke machine. The rear was hollow and I printed holes in the base to help with weight and to house the ESS sound machine, batteries, and originally I wanted to try installing a water spraying system that never did work out. After assembly I painted it, sanded it, painted it again and again and learned a lot along the way. I did use Exceed's kit to make the rear two axles also steer with the truck. I designed a spring latch mechanism for the rear section to lock into place to keep everything secured. In entirety including mis-prints and failed prints there was over 200 hours of printing.
