So Why Slime Monsters??

Hi everyone, I’m Andrew K Barlow, creative guy over at Dark-Platypus Studio. My new STL project, SLIMES!, is running over on kickstarter right now. Predictably, its primary purpose it to offer a large variety of slime monsters for 3D printing/gaming enthusiasts.

But why slimes? Is it because I can’t sculpt and slimes seemed really easy? Well, no. I’ve been sculpting gaming miniatures for a number of years now. The real reason I went with this topic for my first 3D printing kickstarter is:

I needed some slime monsters.

I have a lot of gaming minis…like A LOT. But I ran an encounter the other weekend, and guess what? I didn’t have enough slimes. Not only that, but my whole table of veteran players was falling all over themselves in the rush to misremember their slime lore, and as a consequence they managed to split the slime monsters into several smaller ones before getting their heads on right. And here I am, forced to use proxies…like a sucker!!

Well, this situation could not stand, and so the next day I set about to solve it. I wanted to make sure I would be ready for next time. Of course, as is my way, I OVER-SOLVED it! I sculpted a ton of cool slime STLs.

The Slimes! Kickstarter is currently stuffed with 28 cool STL models, with a total overall asking price of $5!

The meat-and-potatoes of the project is these 4 relatively basic slime shapes. They can be printed out at multiple sizes (supported versions at several different sizes are included) and painted in different colors to represent your basic Ochre Jellies, Black Puddings, Gray Oozes or whatever.

Then there are a few more esoteric Showcase slime models! It’s unlikely you’re going to want to print a whole army of Shoggoths (or, maybe you do!), but you might want at least one!

There’s even a few pop-culture look-alikes!
